My office is efficient with trained and educated staff that have strong interpersonal skills for serving customers.  As your Clerk of the Court, I am a working clerk that is able to assist with customer service, interoffice processing and able to assist staff in the courtroom.  Because not everyone who comes into the Clerk’s office is in a situation that is in their control, my staff is able to perform their duties with compassion and patience.  They give appropriate resources that can be available to a customer.  Since becoming an electronic court, my staff has weathered many challenges and I am proud to report that we are providing quality service both with our internal and external customers.

While all of the duties of the Clerk’s office are too numerous to mention, a few of our overall duties include accepting all appropriate cases filings and the scheduling of all hearings before the Court.  Within the Land Records Department, we receive and record all land record transfers; issue business and marriage licenses; perform civil marriage ceremonies; and, administer the oath of office to elected and appointed officials and those receiving their notary commissions.

As a three term Circuit Court Clerk, it is imperative that I am involved not only within the duties of my office but also the needs of our community.  Therefore, my staff and I are involved in many aspects of the community to ensure that we are operating an efficient office as well as serving the citizens who need our services.  I am extremely proud that we have participated with the Dorchester County Chapter of the NAACP in expungement seminars to educate citizens who may have a criminal record about the steps of having a case expunged.  We are also able to connect those seeking expungement to legal professionals who evaluate qualification and assist so that their paperwork is correctly filed.

In addition to my duties of Clerk of the Circuit Court for Dorchester County, I have also served as a leader within the Maryland Judiciary.  I have served as the Secretary, Vice President, President Elect and President of the Clerk’s Association and am currently the Chair of the Conference of Circuit Court Clerk’s.  I have also been appointed to many committees including the planning and training of staff, and implementation of the Maryland Electronic Courts electronic (MDEC) filing system.
